Our Software Engineer has always heard about anecdotes of people resigning from the job and end up getting hefty pay hikes. Not content with the appraisal this year around, he also decides to give it a shot. Very confident of the fact that his knowledge of the company product is invincible, he is sure that the management will go way beyond to alter his decision. So without securing other job, here he goes to the Manager:
Engineer[E]: Hey, can we talk for a sec?
Manager[M]: Yeah sure. Any issues?
E: Actually I have decided to move on and pursue opportunities outside XXXXXXX.
M: Oh, thats really shocking. Are you sure, you have thought it through?
E: Yeah, i think i have made my decision (Smiling inside, that the big offer is on its way).
M: You know you are really invaluable to team and i cant imagine how things are going to work out without u being there? Is there anything i can do to change your decision?
E: Well actually, the reason for me leaving .....
M: No, no its ok. Everyone has to move on in his career. I can bear with that.
E: No what i am trying to say is .........
M: I know it's bad for our team but we will manage somehow.
E: If you want i can....
M[Opening Outlook]: Let me convey this to HR and send a team notice about this..
E: Oh, I wanted to discuss the reason why I am doing this...
M: Its totally fine.. Now you have taken the decision i know you won't change that...
E[Literally sweating]: Sir Sir, I was just kidding. I am very happy with my work. This place is like home to me.
M: Then go and do your work.
The engineer leaves the room embarrassed and nervous, sits in his cubicle abusing himself for indulging in this which brought him at the brink of losing the job.
PS- The engineer above is not me.
